Outreach
Purpose of the Outreach Sub-Committee:
- To increase the number of females who pursue an actuarial career, by focusing on initiatives at schools and universities.
- To involve the actuarial community in outreach initiatives.
Initiatives in the Outreach Sub-Committee:
Career fair for all universities (in collaboration with ASABA Mentorship):
The Career Fair presents the opportunities to bring together inspiring representatives from the actuarial industry and passionate university students from all over South Africa and to create mutually beneficial relationships. The fair allows recruiters to advertise their employment and bursary offerings and share invaluable advice with students. The students are presented with the opportunity to showcase their talents by participating in one-on-one discussions with recruiters and are able to gain a practical understanding of what their futures as actuaries may look like. The virtual fair is hosted over three days, with one day of empowering talks to help the students prepare for their bright futures.
NextGen AWC - University level (in collaboration with ASABA Mentorship):
This initiative connects with the female members of ASABA University Chapters where we provide support in terms of getting them ready for the next step in their journeys and from a mental resilience perspective.
NextGen AWC - School level (in collaboration with ASABA Schools Collaboration):
This initiative is aimed at grade 10 to 12 learners who are taking mathematics, to create awareness of the various benefits of an actuarial career, explain the education and qualification journey and provide an overview of bursary options.
