ASABA Schools outreach
The Schools Committee
The Schools committee is an arm of ASABA which focuses on engaging currently enrolled students to increase the awareness of the actuarial profession, and supply information, advice and mentorship to students who are considering joining the profession. The main focus of the committee is students from disadvantaged backgrounds, where the impact of the association is greater as there is a lack of prevalent information regarding the profession.
The committee encourages all students to excel in academia and their careers, including students not pursuing actuarial studies. This interaction also provides an opportunity for the association to encourage the serious study of math and science subjects.
Activities
This committee regularly meets with students to discuss the actuarial profession and provides an open engagement forum to discuss actuarial studies, university systems and what is needed to succeed as a professional.
The committee also participates in career days all over the country with different professions, which allows students to understand the broader relevance of the actuarial profession in the business world and to compare this career to others offered.
